so, i’m thinking november is the last time i actually posted a session on this blog. christmas was busy, then i left for africa the day after christmas and was there for two weeks. if you haven’t seen my new blog yet, please go check it out to see some photos and hear some stories about some precious kids and friends i met there.

i have some big news.. i’m moving there in may. to africa. rwanda to be exact.. i wrote a post on the other blog about it, but in short- God opened lots of doors and gave me an amazing opportunity to work with noel orphanage in gisenyi, rwanda- and i’ll be there for a year. it’s home to about 600 (yes, six hundred!) precious kids that i am so excited to be able to hang out with and love on. excited doesn’t even begin to describe what i’m feeling- and i’m so ready to be there!

i am trying to book photo sessions like crazy so i can raise some money to live off of while i’m there, so if you’ve been wanting to book a session- please contact me today and we can set it up!

my last day to take sessions will be sunday, april 22nd.

i am so grateful to have had the opportunity to photograph so many sweet families the past few years, and i will miss this so much! luckily i’ll have tons of kids that ADORE having their photo made in africa:)

let me just start out by saying that these cute kids grandma contacted me and wanted photos of all of her grandkids.. when we were brainstorming for ideas, she asked if it would be too much to set up a little tea party for the girls. i responded with telling her that was right up my alley- i wish every session included a cute little tea party! putting a little imagination and detail into shoots is something i absolutely adore.. i also loved watching these two act like little princesses at their tea party:)

i loved working with this sweet family again! miss kodi just turned two. (LOVED the 2 balloons her mom brought along to use!) she is absolutely adorable and so easy to photograph.. i could have chased her around all day taking her photos!

i love photographing amber’s sweet family. i met them when i took their christmas photos last year and some extended family photos this year. she and her husband have 2 boys already, and they are super cute! this time it was just us girls, so we had fun laughing and talking about the new little baby boy that was on the way!

i am so excited to share with you this opportunity God has put in my path!

about a month ago, i went to lunch with my friend wynne who had just gone on a mission trip with the organization, visiting orphans. she was talking about how she wanted someone to go with her again in december, and i jumped on the opportunity to go chat about it more in detail with her. i had seen her blog posts about what happened the first time around- and my heart just ached hearing her stories about all of the precious children she met. i was trying not to tear up the whole time she was talking because God has put loving on orphans on my heart for so long. the deposit to go on the trip was due the next week, and that meant i had to make the decision pretty fast. (hi, i’m alison. i completely HATE making decisions and tend to avoid them.) when we left, i was pretty sure i was going to just let the opportunity pass and “go some other time” whenever that would be.. i’m not sure if you’ve been here before- but i tend to be a little chicken when i feel like God is trying to do something huge with me. i ask Him for something huge- and when He flat out hands it to me- i tend to want the control and make a situation become a burden i feel the weight of.. seriously. what’s that about? so, wynne kept giving me little nudges by emailing me some great info and texting me to see what i was thinking about it.. i tried to avoid making a decision, but i knew in the back of my head what i should be doing. i realized my behavior was not glorifying Him. like at all. i’m in a bible study with some good friends of mine.. we just had a whole lesson about obedience.. i should know this already. anyway, the last day to sign up for the trip- i just decided to jump. i usually ask approximately a million people what i should do before i do anything. even on something as meaningless as a haircut. this was different, yall. i TOLD everyone i had already signed up.. without asking for their advice. it just felt right.

since deciding to trust my Father, He has been working in me so much. now i feel like i can push my fears aside and doors are opening everywhere. the burden of hanging onto fear is vanishing. i am pretty certain i get to take a group of my YL girls to the philippines to serve this summer for their senior trip. crazy, huh?? i know He will do amazing things once you stop getting tripped up on yourself and simply obey Him. i’m realizing that obedience is a moment to moment thing.. i HAVE to constantly keep myself aware.

a camper love story.. (and new business venture!!)

i admit, i have a huge crush on just about any vintage camper that i see, but this was different. i just knew it was the one.

after months of searching.. and by searching- i mean making my friends turn around on highways during our road trips to dallas to go knock on random doors to ask if their campers were for sale. (hey dad- if you’re reading this- we totally brought mase with us. promise.) or when we went to the trade days in canton, texas- instead of asking about someone’s merchandise they had for sale, i asked how much they would sale the camper they legitimately lived in. i was obsessed to say the least. i stalked craigslist in austin, dallas and small towns in texas and oklahoma for months. i had a feeling one day when i got onto craigslist- i just knew it would be a good day. i hardly checked midland/odessa’s craigslist because i thought the odds were really small. but, that particular day- i found the first step to making this dream a reality. and it just so happened to be the cutest camper i had found yet!

my brother in law was kind enough to go with me to odessa and drag back with us. i was SO giddy the whole way there and the whole way home! i kept saying i felt like jesse spannow from saved by the bell. (get it?!) we had to latch the door shut and the tires were completely flat by the time we made it to midland, but that didn’t stop me from thinking it was the cutest thing i’d ever seen.

early the next saturday morning- i was more than ready to start working on it. i brought a hammer and wood chipping tool with me, screw drivers and big trash bags- and i got to work tearing everything out. i seriously felt like i had accomplished something major. i’m a bit of a girly girl, so destroying stuff is super new to me. it surprised me, but i loved it. i couldn’t get the oven and refrigerator out- so allison’s husband jared helped me. (ps- the oven we tore out was wrapped and given away at a white trash elephant gift exchange at a christmas party. ha!) we continued to work on this thing for almost an entire YEAR! (procrastinate much?) after tearing everything out, we took out the windows to make them weather ready, i painted the inside pink, wallpapered, installed the floor and my brother in law built an awesome bench for the back. i really want to live in it. (have i mentioned that already?)

this weekend, we had a little party to test it out.. i am so thankful to have the most amazing family and friends that have helped me so incredibly much throughout the process. i intended for this little party to be a treat to them for helping me and encouraging my dreams, but they (of course) went above and beyond by making yummy cherry limeade, buying the ice i forgot, helping me cook, bringing yummy sandwiches, and staying up till 2 am helping me. the party was even better than i could have dreamed! i am going to treasure this magical night and the images that we made forever. xo.
